The history of Diwali is replete with legends and these legends are moored
to the stories of Hindu religious scriptures, mostly the Puranas. Though the
central theme of all legends point out to the classic truth of the victory
of the good over the evils, the mode of their presentation and the
characters differ. Diwali, being the festival of lights, lighting the lamp
of knowledge within us means to understand and reflect upon the significant
purpose of each of the five days of festivities and to bring those thoughts
in to the day to day lives. The first day of Diwali is called Dhanvantari Triodasi or Dhanwantari
Triodasi also called Dhan Theras. The second day of Diwali is called Narak
Chaturdasi. It is the fourteenth lunar day (thithi) of the dark forthnight
of the month of Kartik and the eve of Diwali. On this day Lord Krishna
destroyed the demon Narakasur and made the world free from fear. The third
day of Diwali is the actual Diwali. This is the day when worship for Mother
Lakshmi is performed. On the fourth day of Diwali, Goverdhan Pooja is
performed. The fifth day of the diwali is called Bhratri Dooj. It is a day
 dedicated to sisters.

Obama vs. McCain T-Shirt Throwdown

Ahh yes, bumper sticker politics and T-shirt shout-outs.
Because we're living in terrible times of economic crisis, I thought I'd bring back Deals on Wheels-- cause hey, saving a buck or TEN these days is really NECESSARY. WARNING: IF YOU'RE A LABEL WHORE (I mean this in the nicest way possible), DON'T READ ANY FURTHER. WHILE I'LL DO MY BEST TO OFFER THE HIGHEST QUALITY GOODS AT THE BEST PRICES, SOMETIMES A KNOCK-OF OR HOMAGE WILL HAVE TO DO. OTHERWISE... ENJOY THE SAVINGS.

Imagine my surprise when I googled 'Fall Boots' and the Newport News site came up. I know, I know: CHEAP ALERT! But they've got some really cute, as my mother would put it, disposable styles! "Disposable" meaning if they get worn or torn quickly, it's really no bother because the item didn't cost you a fortune. But I literally gasped when I saw their attempt at a Giuseppe Zanotti-esque style (left inset photo). For what it's worth ($34!!!), they did a good job; a great rounded-toe, ankle boot with a blazing red-hot stiletto heel- all patent leather look. Hey, you can look the part...

The boot I'm showing you is simply a must-have. The two-tone toe & cuff on boot lends an oxford, bootie-like look under jeans and when paired with rust-colored, opaque tights, a bubble mini and fall trench; you've a look that'll transcend trends for at least a couple seasons. AND it's nearly 50% off at Nordstrom.com (was $228.95, now $136.90- a steal by BCBGirls).

And finally, for those of you with more fashion sense than you know what do with, you probably love the bootie(s) shown here. I definitely think the Burgundy color of the shoe is the more subdued style but for those of you who really like to push the fashion envelope (myself included), go for the black and white (ivory, really), tuxedo penny-loafer version of the bootie. Personally, I see them incorporated into an outfit that looks something like this: stretch-twill, dark heather grey, pencil skirt; a flouncy, sheer burgundy top with some kind of tie (attached or not) and detailed stockings (something like laced or textured but definitely black OR dark grey). Go for the glory! And since they're on sale at $69.90 (orig. $119.95; Enzo Angiolini at Nordstrom.com) -- I don't even think I need to wish you luck!

Slydial - Go Directly to Voice Mail and Never Speak to Anyone Again

What is slydial?

slydial is a free voice messaging service that connects you directly to someone's mobile voicemail. slydial is a service of MobileSphere.

What's in the name "slydial"?

While

Yeah right. But wouldn't it be cool if sleep were that easy to come by? Some of the things that makes sleeping difficult are bad dreams and nightmares. Luck for us insomniacs, there is hope in aromatherapy. A new study by a team of German scientists presented in Chicago states that the smell of roses can improve the emotional experience of dreaming.

From BBCNews.com:

When the smell of roses had been wafted under the noses of
slumbering volunteers they reported experiencing pleasant emotions in
their dreams. An odor of rotten eggs had the opposite effect on the 15 sleeping women, the German scientists found. They told a Chicago meeting of the American Academy of
Otolaryngology that they now plan to study people who suffer from
nightmares... It is possible that exposure to smells might help make their
dreams more pleasant, believe Professor Boris Stuck and his team from
the University Hospital Mannheim. They waited until their subjects had entered the REM phase of
sleep, the stage at which most dreams occur, and then exposed them to a
high dose of smelly air for 10 seconds before waking them up one minute
later. The volunteers were then quizzed about the content of their dreams and asked how it made them feel. The sleeping women hardly ever dreamed of smelling something.
Nevertheless, the emotional tone of the dream did change depending on
the stimulation.

So fellas, make sure you start buying fresh flowers on a regular basis. Soon, the ladies will be dreaming of you!
